I choose to believe truth. McCarthy led a circus around himself, and that met its nemesis. Anyhow... there’s a vast difference between a fad, and people confessing what has become logically clear to them. America has become fad-driven and it really took folks like the Clintons and Obama running hard into the wall (with things like support of BLM) before the foolishness of the fad has come home.

So no, starting an anti-socialist/anti-communist fad was not good at all — compared with starting an earnest discussion about the merits of competing social systems. Shortcuts don’t work on this level.
