Saying "emails on Weiner's laptop" is ambiguous.

It could be shorthand for "emails we can access through Weiner's accounts which we learned about by examining his laptop."

Do we really know that they actually are on his hard drive and not on the server?

Since none of us have the laptop and aren’t likely privvy to the investigative procedure, it’s kind of pointless isn’t it?

Dunno.

Seems to me if they wanted to read Weiner’s emails over at Yahoo.com, they could just subpoena them from yahoo.

If they wanted to read emails on his pc, they would have to get a search warrant or obtain his permission.

Seems like they are on his pc to me, plus I read that they were in a folder marked insurance.
