Third, cell phones typically are out of range over 10,000 feet. So in reality, two out of three ways they would have known unless the campaign had the pilot turn off the wifi. But you may also notice that nobody from th press pool on the plane has been saying they did not have connection.

The airplanes during the 9/11 attack were cruising at low altitudes. Most commercial flights are 30K feet or greater. No cell service.
