Missouri Senate race in dead heat
The Hill ^ | 10/28/16 | Jourdain Carney

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Democratic challenger Jason Kander are in a virtual tie heading into the final week of the campaign.

The GOP senator is leading Kander by 1 percentage point among likely voters — 47 percent to 46 percent — according to a poll by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research released Friday. Five percent of voters are undecided.

“I suppose there are some personal things going on with Blunt, because he has been around forever, and over the years you make enemies and people say, ‘Yeah, it’s time to get rid of him,'” Mason Dixon Polling's Brad Corker told the Post-Dispatch.

Blunt is leading with older voters and men, according to the Post-Dispatch, and Kander, Missouri's secretary of State, is ahead among younger voters and women.

The Missouri race will help decide which party controls the Senate next year. Democrats need to pick up five seats — or four if they retain the White House — to win control of the upper chamber.

National Democrats and Kander have spent months arguing that Blunt, a member of Senate leadership, has lost touch with Missouri voters. Blunt wasn't initially expected to be vulnerable, but he is only leading in the race by an average of 1 point, according to RealClearPolitics.

Despite the tight Senate race, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has a sizable lead over his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, in Missouri, 47 percent to 42 percent, according to the Mason-Dixon poll. Seven percent of likely voters say they are undecided heading into the final week of the race.

The poll was conducted Oct. 24–26 among 625 likely Missouri voters. The survey has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.

Mild mixed feelings on this one. While I would not have minded at all if Blunt had been primaried out of office I really wouldn't like seeing a Democrat take his seat.

I have been considering the possibility that Trump could win the election with reverse coat tails if NeverTrumpers don’t vote and he wins on the basis of Democrats and Independents that split tickets.

No coat tails for him.

None at all. Trump will take Missouri in a walk but Koster is poised to keep the governor in Democrat hands and now Blunt is possibly headed for a fall.

Blunt did not go to the national convention nor has he endorsed the party nominee. His opponent is a full fledged liberal, but I cannot support establishment Blunt.

One less Republican Senator means one less vote to stop a Hillary Supreme court nominee or a democrat to block a Trump nominee. Either way, it’s a lose/lose for us and the country.

I’ll believe this when I see it. I don’t think Kander will prevail in MO. Very few of us want 2 DemonRat Senators, there will be coattails.

If Blunt had been on the side of the citizens and the rule of law instead of being a Cheap Labor Express stooge, he wouldn’t be in trouble.

I will probably vote for Blunt, but only because I don’t want another Democrat in the Senate. I wish Blunt had been defeated by a conservative opponent in the primary.

Yeah, me too.

Blunt has not been a good Senator, and has run a lousy campaign. The only thing going for him is that he's not a Democrat.

But, that's the only reason I need to vote for him. And that really is the only reason. Between Blunt and Greitens, Missouri GOP has really gotten out of touch. Brunner was the guy that should have won the Governor's primary.

Never thought I'd miss Kit Bond, but that guy was rock solid compared to what we have now.
