It's worse. Bill could (non-convincingly of course) aver that it wasn't about his wife's corruption. But the candidate herself, meeting privately with a top election official? Is that even legal? Wouldn't any meeting have to include reps of all candidates? Wouldn't there have to be a recording and a third-party transcript of it?

It's only stupid if a) it can be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that it happened and b) if it can be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that an illegal act was agreed upon during the meeting.
Otherwise it's a very shrewd (but typically,for her,utterly amoral) move.
