I was very excited about Perot’s candidacy. As I remember it he dropped out because his daughter, who was about to marry, was threatened.
“like any other third-party candidate”
no. on so many levels, just the raw vote totals alone belie that statement. it was a fascinating election in so many ways. for example, the arc of the media treatment of Perot was very similar to the way the media treats Trump today. the press was very afraid of Perot as they are of Trump. ah well, i may someday write a book on that election.
anyway, to each his own. last word if you want it.
His daughter was the excuse, I do remember that; but something tells me there was more to his dropping out, a lot more.
"Economically, however, the majority of Perot voters (57%) were middle class, earning between $15,000 and $49,000 annually, with the bulk of the remainder drawing from the upper middle class (29% earning more than $50,000 annually). Exit polls also showed that Ross Perot drew 38% of his vote from Bush, and 38% of his vote from Clinton, while the rest of his voters would have stayed home had he not been on the ballot."
Sound familiar?
The story that came out was that his family was threatened with harm if he didn't drop out...
I remember that....but we did not get much info on the nature of the threats aside that “they” whomever “they” were/are... were going to disrupt his daughter’s wedding. Like what ? Set up the flowers wrong ? There was more to that story.
So basically Trump is going to finish what Perot started?
If he makes it, that is. Which I sincerely hope he does.
[VOTE FRAUD] == [CIVIL WAR].
I recall the buzz at the time was that Perot went in as a spoiler because he hated George H W Bush. Knowing what I know now, I can see that as a real possibility, the more we know the Bushes the more despicable they seem. I liked what Perot had to say but I didn't take him seriously as a candidate. Wish more people had.
I think Trump learned from Perot-don’t run as a third party candidate. Advance the third party agenda by taking over one of the two parties.
In 1992, the Republican base still thought the Bushes were pro-life (sort of), and not globalist criminals. (Globalism is just the continuation of the Soviet/Nazi project. I.e., we “won” WWII only on the surface.) The reality of the BushClinton Crime Family was completely concealed, even though it had already existed for years. Perot and Stockdale were both pro-abortion, and so unacceptable to most Republicans.
Jeb! really helped blow the Bushes’ cover by murdering Terri Schiavo.
Instead we voted for the first GB 1, would have been much more interesting if Perot hadn't turned tail and run off like he did
Admiral Stockdale Who am I and what am I doing here
No Perot candidacy, no Slick Willie presidency and all the grief it has brought us, and may bring us in the future.
Thanks Ross. /s
I agree with that...Perot was pretty tight lipped about it but it seemed, if I remember correctly, he was concerned about the safety of his family...
I did...Twice...And would again...It was said at the time that if the people who wanted Perot to win but didn't vote for him because they thought he couldn't win, he would have coasted to a victory...
