Actually, the Spanish drove the Muslims out CENTURIES AFTER they “settled in”. The Spanish of the day recognized that was the ONLY way to end Muslim occupation. It worked out well for the Spanish.
That’s the point. It took hundreds of years to drive them out in 1492, and again the remainder in 1611.
