On the last Windows computer i have i run Avast...after getting rid of AVG because it was getting too resource greedy.
i think you may have missed the point though. i actually run OpenSUSE 13.1 as my operating system on this computer. It is a Linux distribution. There is no malware "in the wild" that works on a Linux system. Every once in a while i get a virus in an email attachment. i just stick it into a folder to send to people who REALLY IRRITATE ME.
They do make a version of AVG that is designed for Linux, but it does not have a removal tool. It doesn't need one. To remove a virus on a Linux system, one simply deletes the file or throws it into a folder like i do for the purpose listed above.
i'm actually agnostic about operating systems, but to keep old hardware alive, Linux is your best option. This computer is long past it's expected life but it is still doing it's job.
