Because the leadership of a nation is, in the end, reflective of the population that elect or tolerate them.
That is one reason I am extremely pessimistic.
I have long been a believer in the concept that there is a fabled “tipping point” that exists, when the people who will vote for free candy outnumber the votes of the people who will pay for the candy.
I believe it is that same dynamic at work here with the type of people being elected.
