I'm a bit older than you are and yes, I have a rather high IQ.

I come from a family of readers and I desperately yearned to read, when I was bitty. Once I learned how to read, there was no holding me back! I'd read anything and everything and my mother said that it was okay for me to read the books in the house...so I did, besides arm loads of library books. I was reading adult books ( Ruth Benedict's "PATTERN'S OF CULTURE", just before I was 9, because my mother had just read it and it looked interesting )at a young age, but also fairy tales and OLD children's books, which are far better written than the modern stuff.

Do I ever read what I call "popcorn for the brain"? Not as much as I used to, but yes, some. But mostly I read, and have been breading, for much of my adult life, what most might call "serious books"; non-fiction. Hey, if something is interesting to me, I'll read about it. :-)

You're right about "learning"! Yes, it's kind of a compulsion of mine, though not in a "bad" way.

Have you found, as I have, that once you get interested in a topic, it'll lead to other topics that one just HAS TO also learn about?

Once my college days were over, I sighed a sigh of relief, because n ow I could read whatever I wanted to and NOT what was assigned!

Sounds just like me.

Yep, all the time. I start into a topic that grabs my attention, and it leads to something else, usually related, that I have to check out.

I got into Archaeology a while back. That led to Paleontology and Anthropology, which led to Geology. All are inter related. I ended up with books about each, spent about 3 or 4 years trying to find out all I could about them.

Computers...same there, I had an old 486, needed more drive space so I finally found a small drive, none of the new ones would work, the 486 had a 540MB drive limit. Original hard drive crashed, we spent half the night getting it to work again, reinstalled Windows, the whole 9 yards. I decided if I had to work on it again I would not ask any questions. Started picking up books and old computers at resale shops to tinker with. 3 years later I was opening a computer repair shop with someone else, then moved and opened my own, built and repaired them for 15 years.

Got into photography..boy did that turn out to be interesting...I wanted to find out what bird that was...so now I have field guides on birds, flowers, mushrooms, trees, mammals, animals in general, butterflies...just because I wanted to know what I just took a picture of...

It’s crazy...but it is what it is, I just roll with it.
