In one of the documentaries on the HMS Hood vs. KMS Bismarck, there was an interview with a Kriegsmarine sailor that was up on catwalk outside of the Bismarck's bridge during the encounter, attending whatever officers were there.

He described a salvo from the Hood passing by overhead, close enough to "suck the air out of their lungs".

The Hood had 15" guns that fired a 1,900+lb shell.
