Last night, the CBS Evening News devoted its final segment to a Seattle high school where all the players have elected to pull a Kapernick and kneel during the National Anthem. CBS was quick to report the school has won all of its games this year, but they couldn’t hide a couple of salient facts: first of all, that was a pathetic-looking team (talent wise) and secondly, the stands were virtually empty.
Does ESPN still televise high school games of Friday nights? For a few years, they were pairing high school powerhouses on Friday evenings and (reportedly) paying the travel costs for the visiting teams. I’d love to see Safespace High from Seattle paired with a real high school team from Texas, Ohio, Georgia or Pennsylvania—the type of institution where the coaches still insist the players stand for the National Anthem. It would be a glorious massacre.
Hoping, praying . . .
