It is hard to imagine a period since the end of the Cold War when relations between Russia and the United States have been quite so bad.
...
The Russian president has spoken explicitly about the worsening climate between Washington and Moscow, insisting that what the Obama administration wants is "diktat" rather than dialogue.
For all that, the US and Russia are still in contact over Syria. For all the harsh rhetoric and accusations, they both realise that they have a vital role to play in any eventual settlement of the Syrian drama.
Whatever its immediate strategic intentions, a permanent war in Syria doesn't benefit Moscow any more than Washington.
But without that basic level of trust and understanding between them, any dialogue rests upon shaky foundations. It was never supposed to be like this. The end of the Cold War was supposed to usher in a new era.
For a time Russia retreated from the world stage, but now it is back with a vengeance, eager to consolidate its position nearer home; to restore something of its former global role and to make up for perceived slights perpetrated by the West.
So where did it all go wrong? Why were Russia and the West unable to forge a different type of relationship? Who is to blame? Was it US over-reach and insensitivity, or Russia's nostalgia for Soviet greatness? Why have things now got so bad and is it correct to describe the present state of affairs as a "new Cold War"?
I am not going to try to give a comprehensive answer to all these questions - the intricacies of this story would require a book the length of Tolstoy's War and Peace! But I am going to try to throw out some pointers.

Where did it all go wrong? Three letters:
BHO
Kosovo.
Well, let’s see.
The U.S. creates ISIS and arms them via Saudi Arabia and Qatar. U.S. supports ISIS in Syria.
Russia supports Syria (who protected Christian minorities by the way) and is fighting ISIS.
Any questions?
America hating Libs like Sir blah blah already laying the ground work for Hillary to be Putin’s doormat like obama. WW3 my you know what.
Bill Clinton
Kosovo, Serbia, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Syria and the mother of all - Ukraine.
The globalists and bankers need a week and divided Russia. Russians, who were flat on their back for the 1990’s recovering from Marxism, knew what that feeling was like and preferred to remain a whole nation, with their own language, culture and race. They did not buy the Soros, Pussy-Riot version of multi-kulti liberal democracy. Or rather, they saw its true purposes.
Hence, conflict with the West was baked into the pie.
They saw NATO expand (not contract as promised), and saw NATO move to its borders and above all, they saw a feeble BHO/Clinton attempt to split Ukraine from its orbit - and above all, remove access to the Black Sea. Anyone with any knowledge of history knows this has been a 350 year Russian project. If it wasn’t Putin, then it would have been some military clique that was going to stand up to that last affront.

“Where did it all go wrong? Three letters — BHO”
Well, that was the real start. BUT, we must add the flaccid, complicit CONGRESS that has let anti-Western policies CONTINUE for eight years.
While obama and his family were tweaking with Jay-Z and Beyoncé in the White House, this was what Russia was doing

Tyrants always take advantage of weakness. Ukraine was the first domino to fall, followed by Syria, Iran and more to follow.
Kosovo, Serbia, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Syria and the mother of all - Ukraine.
As if KGB filth like Putin needed as reason to hate the US. It’s just how they roll. Like their fellow travelling brethren in the Democrat party.
Just look at those of us here begging for a “reset.”
I have to say the ONLY positive of a Trump loss would be no longer having to be allied with these knuckle dragging Putinists. LOL.
Trump doesn’t have that much to do with it, imo. I think it’s more a matter of anti-Obama reflex. People see Putin standing up to him, therefore the “logic” follows that Putin is good.
With its massive territory and resources, Russia should be the richest country on earth. Instead it has a lower per capita GDP than Malaysia. It is rated as being more corrupt than many African countries. And of course it is run by a coalition of mafia and secret police. To distract from all this Putin has to use the 100% state-controlled media to unite Russians behind the perception of an external enemy.
