As someone who works in the Security Clearance world, I can assure you that interviewers aren't even permitted to ask directly about sexual orientation anymore, and an applicant being a homosexual, closeted or not, is no longer a disqualifying factor. The current guidelines go out of their way to tell interviewers that they must not treat homosexual relationships any different from heterosexual ones. In fact to accommodate homosexuals, essentially the entire "sexual deviancy" category of security clearance denials has been all but gutted so about the only thing that can keep you from getting a clearance these days is pedophilia (and sadly enough that isn't even automatic denial, I've seen people approved as long as they were honest and were undergoing counseling).
