“Given the timing so close to a presidential election and the location in a battleground state, this crime may be the first of its type in American history: political terrorism on a presidential election level.”
Shooting of Presidential candidate George Wallace in 1972, attempts on President Elect Abe Lincoln’s life in 1860 and his assassination in 1865, shootings of Presidents William McKinley, JFK, and shooting of Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy at DNC Convention in 1968 are not counted because...? John Hinkley in 1981 was apparently a lone nut, trying to impress a child actress, but lone nuts are often employed for assassinations, so that’s too ambiguous to count.
Plus, so far as I know, the incidents you cite were all single nut job perps, while this one in NC seems to be organized by one political party and campaign against an opposing campaign.
