The reference to Harry Truman's "Give 'em Hell" tour is quite apt. Dewey sat on his lead until it evaporated. The pollsters even stopped polling during the summer because Dewey's lead was so big. Truman, however, knew he would win.

Truman, like LBJ and Dubya, could be deadly boring when reading a prepared text. But when it came to stump speaking, all three knew how to work a crowd and use barnyard humor to make a point. Trump has that gift.
