Juan Carlos Herrera is beyond devastated. He says his 25-year-old-son, jailed in 2015 for robbery, was beaten, dismembered and eaten by fellow inmates at the Táchira Detention Center. The shocking claim became public on Oct. 10, when Herrera told the local media he made the gruesome discovery during a regular prison visit. He explained the alleged atrocity occurred during a month-long mutiny that had ended three days earlier.
One of those who were with him when he was murdered saw everything that happened, Herrera told reporters. My son and two others were taken by 40 people, stabbed, hanged to bleed, and then Dorancel butchered them to feed all detainees, he added, referring to infamous inmate Dorancel people-eater Vargas, who is in prison since 1999 for cannibalism.

Was he a “one-eyed, one-horned, flyin’ purple people eater”?
Tastes like chicken
He’s just misunderstood.
Tough crowd tonight.
Don’t let them back you down, lee.
I worked with a lot of latinos and no group was ever more casual about putting the wrong people into the wrong tribe than they are.
Anyone who is remotely Asian is a Chino. Hawaiians, Chamorros from Guam, Filipinos, Vietnamese, everyone is a Chino. Anyone who fits into the generic Whitepeople category is Anglo.
In honor of this anyone from South of the Border is therefore Mexican, and descended from whatever pre-Columbian tribe that first occurs to us. Including our fellow-American Venezuelan cannibals.
Bon appétit!
I blame it on the Spanish being descended from the Visigoths.
Heh, that’s quite amusing actually. We used to have a Chinese high school student in our Spanish choir, before we had any Hispanics from the congregation. I don’t know how many times I told people, “El nino Chino no es nuestro hijo!”
That’s like most Latin American style prisons
The inmates run the house and the police or army runs the wall and only go in the prison in force or in certain administration or maintenance areas
The cells which are usually like dorms or efficiencies are prisoner managed
It’s about money and power
Gangs run the prisons or cartels or both
A partnership between cartels and street gangs pretty much
Some even run their own food service and your wife or family as well as whores can stay with you a certain amount like extended conjugal visits
Some Mexican prisons the family lives inside and come and go to work and school while man does his time
Many prisoners get informal furloughs to go do the bidding of their criminal bosses with prison as the alibi
Some used to get hired out as death squad operators to get out early
It’s truly a bizarre prison style with inmates frequently heeled as well
Rife for corruption and mordida
There are bad English language prisons too
Antigua....Her Majesty’s....rough
Spanish Town in Jamaica ....after 90 days you get weekend furloughs
Fox Hill Bahamas..,,brutal I had a buddy there....36 months...8 to a an old 1700s cell..,,,shit bucket passed around.....slop bucket for food
Water hose once a week
Blanket and stone floor for mattress
It was no joke
Still
Western Hemipheres worst hands down is National Penitentiary Port Au Prince Haiti
Rue Champs du America
I was almost put there but escaped via private plane middle of the night to Dom Rep
Peoples decayed corpses have been found in the darker recesses
Starvation
No water
And if they have a warrant or writ for a family member but can’t find them
They simply take someone other family and hold them 2-3 years
The quake knocked it down so I have no clue about now
I had a buddy from Dallas who did a year at Carcel Modelo in the Chapeniero district of north central Bogota
Horrible place for violence but if you had cash and friends it was a breeze
He knew Gonzalo Gacha from Muzo mine so he was untouchable and women whenever he wanted and street food and good quarters with Gachas militia folks inside
If anyone you ever know gets locked up in a hard place
Get there quick
Have money available and be prepared to pay for life and freedom
Find out who has biggest influence inside
I have another story about a Medellin prison that ended badly for a boy from south Alabama who had his shrimp boat in the wrong ocean

(see post 40 - I beat you)
Don’t write that into law. It’s the one bright spot Hillary’s looking at.
More seriously, I don’t think rape and assault should just be accepted for prisoners, either. If the state or Feds can’t guarantee that, privatize and hold employees accountable for it happening.
Yeah, I only spotted your post after I posted mine. Hat tip to you! I rarely expect to run across someone else who knows about Goths and Spaniards. It certainly was news to the disaffected black-clothed yutes whom I used to mock for being Spaniards...
Damn, now the FEMA camps will try this to cut the costs for housing the “baskets of deplorables”, “buckets of losers (blacks)” and “needy latinos”!
To be fair, before the Goths and Moslems, Spain had Celts and Romans, and Zot knows what else before that.
Yeah I was just looking at something like that on another site..
” The invasion of Hispania (as the Iberian peninsula —including Portugal— was then known) was not a single event carried out by a unified group, but a series of migrations by different tribes —Sueves, Vandals, Alani, Visigoths etc. The Sueves, Vandals and Alani crossed the Pyrenees in 409, the Sueves establishing themselves in the north west, the Vandals in the south and the Alani in Lusitania”

BTI (before the internet) I used to have an Atlas of World History or two... maps on one page, history on the other... I could get lost in those pages for hours, as bad as following links on the internet. Lots of European tribes and migrations.
We’ve run through quite a few World Atlases: my sons will pore over them for hours, memorizing cities and rivers and population data. #3 Son, who is weird even compared to his brothers, had a meltdown when he learned his atlas was out of date and Yugoslavia had split up.
I wish we knew more about all those people: the Sueves, Vandals, Alani, et al. They all had great rules, crappy rules, femmes fatales, mass murders of the royal family, all that epic stuff. I have a lectures series on “Nomadic Empires of the Steppes” that I’ll never understand unless I sit down with the notebooks and the atlas, because there are so many tribal and person names that are novel, even after a lifetime of history study.
Bravo!
Thanks. (I used Google a bit to get the stats right.) Fwiw, it’s from the natives of the Caribbean (relatives of Venezuela’s Wayuu) that we get the term “cannibal.”
One half of my favorite set:

I agree. Back when the Conservative Book Club offered real books and not pop-con fluff I picked up a University of Notre Dame Press book on the early history of Europe. When the mackerel snapper monks were clearing the forests and establishing isolated monasteries that would grow into famous cities. Good stuff.
