That comment struck me as odd, it means nothing. However there were clearly some Muslims here at the time. Records are hard to come by.

The usual claims relate to Luis de Torres Columbus' translator since he spoke Arabic. Hebrew, Portugese, Aramaic claiming Jewish conversos were Muslim. A slave, Estevanico, was shipwrecked off Florida in the early 16th century, traveling through the southwest to Mexico City. No doubt some slaves were Muslim.

Numbers are hard to come by. At the time of the Civil War there were about 150,000 Jews in the US, about 0.5% of the population. Records seem to indicate about 8,000 to 10,000 fought on both sides. Per Wiki 292 Muslims fought in the Civil War, one reaching the rank of Captain. Don't know how they got such a precise number. These numbers would imply a rather speculate muslim population of about 0.0018% at the time of the civil war.

I've no doubt there were numerous individuals of other relibions here at the time as well. IMO for Hillary to establish a claim of significance of the Muslim community at the time of the Revolution. You find prominent Jews, prominent blacks, prominent Indians (natives if you prefer). I'm not aware of a significant Muslim contribution. Presumably Hillary isn't either, else it would be mentioned. And that's likely a function of a tiny population.

This is part of the “leave no disaffected special interest group unturned” approach that Obama pioneered. Obama has imported the better fraction of a million Muslims; those that vote need to be motivated to turn out, as they will probably be 90% Dem votes.

Note that the current practice is to describe as ‘Muslim’ pagans who were forcibly converted to Islam and subsequently became Christians one way or another.

Can't see the relevance of this to HRC's claim about Muslims "here" at the time of George Washington. This connects to Spanish America, not to the English colonies that later became the US and not to the earliest days of the United States in the late eighteenth century.

Can anyone name a single Muslim who played any role at all in the founding of the United States?

It's clear that HRC's statement is nothing but pandering to current-day Muslims.
