Sandy was one of those weird Category 1’s that for whatever reason did a stupid amount of damage.
I can’t recall how well formed it was or whether or not it was strengthening when it came inland, but every now and then the smaller storms deliver.
There was a tropical storm that hit New Orleans just before Katrina came, it was named Cindy, and that one was also pretty darn scary.
The sound the wind made as it came up the streets in Uptown is not something I will forget.
I was sitting out on the porch for this a bit listening to this, and I was watching trees bend all the way to the ground in the shape of an upside down U. It was like the sky just sat on them.
Some of the sights and sounds of Cindy is was made me leave the city as soon as I saw Katrina incoming. Wasn’t even gonna mess around with that. Got my friends and family out the night before the city and suburbs all tried to leave at once, got gas, no traffic, even got two hotel rooms in Florida that allowed dogs, so I thank Storm Cindy for opening my eyes for Katrina.
