Folks, folks. Just to keep things in perspective, here is a VIDEO I recorded at 3:40 PM today. As you can see there is barely a breeze and only a light rain in the Fort Lauderdale area. The reason for this is that the heaviest winds of Matthew are confined to a very narrow area of the eye wall. Also we are on the weak side of the hurricane. At the time of the recording, less than an hour ago, I believe the eye of Matthew was about 50 miles from Fort Lauderdale and won't come much closer since it is almost at the closest approach.

Watch the video and you will be surprised at how little effect Hurricane Matthew has on the Fort Lauderdale area although the beaches must be getting some heavy waves.

Thanks. I am beginning to believe this is not a Cat 4 problem for S. FL. Keep going east and keep your winds to yourself.

Matthew has not been anywhere close to within 50 miles of Ft. Lauderdale.

Not much different here in the Keys highest I’ve seen is 22 sustained at Molasses with gusts to 25 knots.

Wow—what hyperbole appears to have been broadcast leading up to its approach—thankfully it looks like Florida and east coast have lucked out, thank God!
