Lower pressures in the eye of the storm are reflective of stronger hurricanes. A drop in pressure is usually an ominous indication that a storm is strengthening.

Unfortunately, the earlier post erroneously (and dangerously) intimated that a pressure must be below 900 to cause catastrophic damage. This is a an uninformed, false statement.

“What is a millibar 900?”

Millibar refers to the sea level atmospheric pressure at the center of the storm. The lower the pressure reading, the more powerful the storm.

900 is extremely low and indicates a very powerful storm.

It’s a measurement of the barometric pressure, and it’s very low. Generally the lower the pressure the worse the storm.
