Sounds like a microburst or a wave of high winds aloft where the wave bottom dips down to the surface. You can end up with really high winds in one spot and virtually nothing in surrounding areas. Wind isn’t necessarily as linear as one would think.
It was a fairly small storm. I was watching the radar before it hit and the “red blob” was maybe a mile+ in diameter. There were people in my neighborhood who thought they saw signs of rotation in the damage done on their property. I have five maple, two crabapple, and a hawthorn tree and was lucky to have lost only a third of the hawthorn.
