Two hours later, but I do have a response for this.

There’s a reason that Trump himself was live-tweeting during the debate, and I’m willing to wager that’s specifically to get people watching it who normally wouldn’t watch the VP debate.

So I’m pretty sure that Trump, at least, thinks that it will do some good.
