The most significant advances in recumbent speed bikes were made by a guy named Matt Weaver who created the Kyle Edge which was the predecessor to his ETA Edge. He was an elite athlete by performance standards in addition to being a fantastic engineer.

This is pretty much as fast as anyone is going to go unless there are some incredible weight savings by using some material that doesn't yet exist but even then it would likely be only incremental.

So, if you're interested in speed bikes, google Matt Weaver.

The bikes aren’t the limitation anymore, as elite bikes now only weigh about 5lbs or something like that. It’s the human being that is the limitation in how fast humans can go. We’re just not aerodynamic and we aren’t that strong.
