In the company I work for, I supervise 6 SCADA technician/programmers for a utility that covers 1600 sq miles (I used to be a tech myself). We actually call ourselves the Tech Priests of the Adeptus SCADAcus. We have discussions over whether we are Electro-Priests, Lexmechanics, Transmechanics, or Engiseers.
In an earlier life, we were EM1, EM2, EW1, ET2, AE2, GSE2, and a civilian. We all believe that when Gen X leaves the work force, the power and water grids will fail. Any Millennial who is smart enough to do this work thinks they are too good to do it. You’re right about 40k.
