And what in the world is the basis for calling it a “protestant congregation”.

They spend their time protesting about the existence of God?

Because it is a member congregation of the United Church of Canada, which is the largest Protestant denomination in Canada.

well, I guess that’s the same problem with Catholic or Protestant. Anyone can call themselves one whether they are or not. Whether it’s the Catholic “women priests” or the Protestant “atheists”. It’s not like the bible didn’t warn us about it. The entire book of Jude is nothing but a warning about this stuff.

Rev. Gretta Vosper

I’m starting to see the problem already.” When a Vosper rejects the Vespers what is Left?

There is a difference in how the different churches handle these problems. The United Church of Canada must go through a long drawn out process before a decision is made on whether to place Rev. Gretta Vosper on the Discontinued Service List (Disciplinary).

The term “Protestant” was originally intended to mean Christian and not RC.

However, in today’s secular world it is easily now inferred to mean anything but Catholic.

I find it hard to avoid laughing when even considering the concept of a State sponsored church.

“the idolatry of a theistic god.”

In case you're wondering, you can find the non-theistic god on the shelf over there right between the dry water and cold fire.

Yeah, but even the Catholics have their offbeat sects that call themselves Catholics. The "Women priests" and the Father Phlager crowd, among others. They call themselves Catholics but they aren't and don't subscribe to the Roman Catholic catechism by any means.

yes, but no lesbian ministers, gay marriages, abortion support, etc.

A whole bunch of them need to go back to a catechism class.

Amazing what were hardcore Calvinistic churches is even having a debate whether to allowed an avowed atheist to be a minister.

Another hit piece on *Protestantism* I see.

This "church" and I use the term loosely, is neither hardcore, Calvinist, nor Protestant.

If y'all calim Christians have to own people like these simply because they call themselves a "church" then y'all own all the "good Catholics" like Chavez, Kennedy, Pelosi, Kerry, Biden, etc, just to name a few.

It is beyond me that in my life time I would see posts such as this, how ridiculous. Can you imagine Jesus telling some of his apostles “It’s okay if you’ve rejected my message, you know the things I told you anyway, go tell the people”.

Because Some religious denominations think they have the right to label everyone else and yet refuse to themselves accept any labels given to them.

IOW, do as I say, not as I do.

AKA, hypocrisy....

A woman, if that is what she is, can’t preach from the pulpit. She can’t be the leader of a church, atheist or not.

But what if it's a man who thinks he's a woman, is that okay? /sarc

Funny how you can turn a story about an atheist leading a Protestant congregation (no Catholics in sight)

Then either Jim Noble is not a Catholic, or you evidently failed to consider the disparaging remark about Protestants is a typical Cath one.

The problem you need to face is that this isn't the first time Protestantism has gone down this trajectory. The Unitarians were originally Massachusetts Puritan Calvinists. Look it up. What happened? Similarly, Calvinism in its original European homes (Scotland and the Netherlands) is moribund. What happened?

The problem you need to face is that by your logic Catholicism is to be blamed, for Protestants were originally Catholic! Obviously, the issue is whether the change occurred because of faithfulness to basic distinctive defining aspects of the original or dissent from them. You cannot make Unitarianism or other liberals or moribund faith a product of faithfully following SS and its consequential and preaching of the gospel and accompanying doctrine of sola fide, defined as a faith that effects holiness and obedience, but you can blame conservative evangelicalism on it, and its and contention of basic Truths we both affirm.

And as for faith being moribund, wanna look at Italy ?

It appears that this is the case.

The Unitarians were originally Massachusetts Puritan Calvinists

Never mind THAT. I was born in 1950. I was placed in the cradle roll of a Congregational Church when I was three. I attended Sunday School, without fail, every Sunday from 1956 (when I received my first Bible) until 1965.

My church conformed to the Synod of Dort, had a liturgy which included the Gloria Patri and the Old Hundredth, taught Calvinism (more or less), and brought children up to know Jesus Loves Me and Lord I Want to Be a Christian, taught the virgin birth and the resurrection of the body, and taught substitutionary atonement. Of course, it conformed to standard NW European Protestant understanding of Holy Communion as a symbolic practice.

My church joined the “United Church of Christ” in 1959, and, of course, it goes without saying that all vestiges of Christianity have now been purged from that apostate and heretical sect, which is rapidly vanishing and will not exist in 50 years.

So, there are more recent examples to make your point than the devolution of Puritans into Unitarianism.

Use of the term ‘protestant’ or ‘Catholic’ carries an automatic understanding that at least one believes in GOD. The female is riding a meal ticket. She is not a Catholic or a Protestant. She is just a dead soul riding a meal ticket and her ‘congregation’ is being duped into paying for her ride.
