If you haven’t read The River War, it is available at Gutenberg.org for free. Get The Story of the Malakand Field Force: An Episode of Frontier War while you’re at it. Both are quick reads, as they were developed from serial news dispatches Churchill was making as a war correspondent. Both involve wars with Muslims in primitive conditions, and should have been required reading for the entire military and State Dept. post-9/11.
