European Union nations pressed ahead Tuesday with plans to boost military cooperation as Britain vowed to oppose the creation of an EU army or headquarters.

With Britain leaving the EU, France and Germany have been spearheading moves to boost Europe’s capacity to run its own security operations. […]

“We are in a very strong Franco-German relationship and we think we will be able to make significant progress before the end of the year,” he said, standing alongside German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen.

Von der Leyen insisted that “it’s not about a European army.” …

There’s been a cold war going on between the UK and the EU, even before Brexit. The EU has ignored UK vetoes when it meant pushing their agenda forward, and they are illegally excluding the UK in these current discussions. Not to mention, Obama’s “back of the queue” rhetoric has further emboldened them. These are the UK’s historic enemies acting in this fashion, remember.

And you really think it could become a hot war?

Good. So NATO is not needed any more.

Time to pack it up. Let the Europeans run their own statist, social-engineering schemes.

Then what is it? The Fourth Reich flexing muscle?

The cynic in me construes this Franco-German military alliance as an eventual Muslim Military by proxy. Prodded along by Saudi finances bribes.

Fine - then US should pull out all our troops in those countries that are defending them - especially Germany.

That would save us tons of money, better spent of rebuilding our military - and leaving them to their own devices - and especially since Merkel has announced plans to train up and arm the Syrian ‘refugees’ in Germany ‘so they can learn how to fight and go back to protect their country” -

What a great idea...what could possibly go wrong?

That’s not what this is about.

They wanted to do this when NATO was at the height of its powers too. As a rival to NATO. The EU has always had its own agenda, and this is not about repaying the US for defending it for 71 years.

Their ongoing attitude towards the UK does not exclude the possibility. The EU, furthermore, has also always expressed the desire to find a strongman to lead it.

Doesn’t matter what its about. America doesn’t need an Empire in Europe and I see no benefit to America, outside of our financial and governing elites, to maintaining NATO.

If the socialists and statists in Europe think they can form an EU army - let them.

If Putin is such a threat, let them deal with it.

NATO’s mission ended 25 years ago. As it is operating now, is security cover for socialist/globalist social-engineering, and is more dangerous now than not having it at all.

Of course it matters what it’s about. The US may not need an empire, but the EU desires one. And such an entity would become an enemy of the USA, not a partner; Obama encouraged this, to the detriment of the USA and Britain.

If this were being done to align with Trump’s accord to the effect that they become more active partners with the USA, then it can be desirable. But it is not. This is all about pushing their own agenda.

As far as Putin goes, there are numerous calls within the EU for rapprochement with him. Even in spite of the call to arms here.

What you have just described to me: NATO is the thin line that keeps Europe from forming a massive, continent wide military power and Empire that will make the USA its enemy. So keep your friends close, and your enemies closer? That’s the purpose of NATO????

Repeating itself for a THIRD time within a hundred years or so? Bizarre.

The Brits have dodged a bullet. A YUGE bullet.

It does not sound as if the EU is planning on major increases in military spending. So this sounds like it won’t amount to much more than buying some new patches and creating a new headquarters that will undoubtedly be a nice place for the assigned staffers to live.

Actually, this isn’t really about NATO, which has been an arm of the EU since the 90s thanks to Clinton. It’s about the EU’s long-standing agenda, which they even tried to put into play when NATO was doing what it was formed to do.

Socialists play the long game, because they believe Marx to be a prophet and their victory to be inevitable. They are shutting Britain out at a moment they feel that their time has come, therefore.

Have a look at their treaties. Especially the new clauses in the Treaty of Lisbon about “enhanced cooperation”. They have had the plans in place for a unified military for a very long time, and creating the centralized command would be the keystone for such a unification.

Actually they are letting in mideasterners. It has recently been reported that as many as 30 got their training, and promptly left for ISIS.
They are looking at how to screen them out.
