In my Army days those working the intel agencies were vetted to the point where this would likely never happen. I recall a form that listed all the un-American organizations, and this list was looooooooooooong. One simply could not be associated with any of them. Not to mention being a druggy, homo or have any record at all.

If something like this did happen, action would be quick and the media would never know.

I recall a guy that got caught smoking pot, he was immediately assigned to a DA infantry unit in ‘Nam.

I met a guy with the same name as a radical activist head of one of these groups. I said, "You realize your name..." and he laughed and related "You should have seen when I joined the Army! A bunch of Sergeants suddenly rushed in and started yelling at me. That was the first I had heard of that radical guy with my name."

He was able to get all that straightened out and serve.
