You’re right, but in practice the word “podium” often gets used (or misused if you insist) to refer to a lectern.

I just got around to watching last week's Saturday Night Live. The cold open was a Democrat debate. Bernie said "You know what I don't understand, America? These podiums. What are you supposed to do with your elbows? Rest them on top? They're too short!"
