First reports in Illinois said at least five to nine people were shot after gunfire was heard in an alleyway at the US university’s Champaign campus in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Reports two people have died are as yet unconfirmed.
Officers said the shooter has left the area and they are searching for the suspect.
Several shots were fired in Green Street between Third and Fourth streets at about 1am local time (7am BST), the Daily Illini reported.
An hour after the shooting, reports of a mass stabbing near a university campus in Boston emerged.
Police said two suspects were at large after six people were stabbed in the early hours of Sunday morning on Tremont Street in the Theatre District.
One is in a critical condition and is in surgery, Boston Police Superintendent Bernard O’Rourke said.

In Illinois an alert sent out by police on Sunday morning urged locals to stay away from the area and said more information is to come.
The shooting took place behind a post office, one block away from the popular campus bar, the Red Lion Pub.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup has identified the deceased as George Korchev of Mundelein, IL. Mr. Korchev was pronounced dead at 1:02 AM at Carle Foundation Hospital.

The man killed was just a bystander.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that an argument took place during an apartment party in the 300 Block of E. Green. The argument transitioned outside where a fight broke out and shots were fired. The victims in the incident were not involved in the fight. Mr. Korchev was walking near the area when the shots were fired.”
It’s nice to know the press is reporting this. Too bad it isn’t the American press.
