All good questions.
Yes, I live in Union County, just to the east of Charlotte. Charlotte tries to act as if they’ve subsumed Mecklenburg County, but a number of the cities run their own police departments, so I don’t know why the Charlotte police are so encroaching.
Here, we have the Union County Sheriff’s Department, which covers all the areas that don’t have separate police. Monroe (the county seat), Wingate, Waxhaw, and Stallings have their own police departments, but my town, Indian Trail, rents officers from the County. Fine bunch of people - some subdivisions in my area recently held an appreciation event for the Sheriff’s Department, with gift bags for each of the officers, and even gifts arranged by PetSmart for the dogs.
I stand corrected. I went back and watched it again. He did say bag. Medical bag makes sense.
“Why not listen to the wifes recording, where she repeatedly tells him dont do it.”
Maybe that morning he told his wife he was going to either kill a cop that day or have a cop kill him, and she was telling him “Don’t do it.”
Looks to me like an old Colt Mustang in .380 caliber.
Not something to be trying to fight three or four cops with.
I wonder who it was stolen from.
Here’s what we can tell just from this video:
Cops are aiming weapons at the car. Repeatedly yelling at him to drop the gun - I didn’t count - cops transcript says 10 times. I heard the command a number of times. Suspect still in car. Suspect ignores cops. After ignoring cops, suspect gets out of car - doesn’t listen to commands, doesn’t put his hands up - turns, and I see something in his right hand. He ignores cops again starts walking backwards and ignores more repeated orders to drop the gun - keeps his right arm at his side. Keeps backing up - again ignoring cops.
Why the hell would you act this way when a number of cops are yelling at you to drop a gun? Why would you keep moving, keep ignoring and acting sketchy? This was a justified shooting.
It’s a Colt Mustang .380 ACP.Small pistol which is why it’s hard to see. Looks like it’s in his right hand.
Exactly, exactly. This shooting was justified.
He had a gun and th cops had already seen it. The attached narrative with the videos outlines this.
His body posture was that of someone with a gun preparing to use it, he was assuming a weaver hold/stance on the gun and this is what the cops reacted to.

Possible, but I wouldn't be so sure right now. The image is not that clear. In addition, I would use caution because if he were wearing an ankle holster the Chief would have very likely broadcasted that to the world.
Colt Mustang .380. It’s 1911 downsized. With the safety on it would be safe.
We have PLCMC, the Public Library of Charlotte-Mecklenburg County. I pay an annual out-of-county user fee to access this system, which is really great. They get all the latest conservative nonfiction. The cities do not have their own, independent libraries.
However, several cities in Mecklenburg County have their own police departments, and there is a Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Department. Some of their deputies are members of my church, and (at union rates) they do our traffic control on Sundays and act official at our annual festival ... even though we’re in the City of Mint Hill, which has its own police.
I don’t know why the Charlotte police claim the county. Maybe it’s historical, from before contiguous cities had their own police.
“Why the hell would you act this way when a number of cops are yelling at you to drop a gun? Why would you keep moving, keep ignoring and acting sketchy?”
Suicide by cop.
You must be a local! Thanks.
Oh I agree, the wife’s recording is damning. So much so that I expected to see him with a gun in his hand.
He was a convicted felon, he knew the drill.
“He had a gun and th cops had already seen it. The attached narrative with the videos outlines this.”
Yes, the cops had already seen it. After they left and came back, they saw it again. He didn’t obey commands - if I had that many cops pointing guns at me, I would have come out with my hands empty and up high - I wouldn’t have moved, walked - nothing. The cops had every right to fear for what this guys was going to do. Wife is saying “don’t do it” cops are saying “drop the gun”.
I think we cross the line into Charlotte limits about 7 miles from my house.
“He was a convicted felon, he knew the drill.”
Another really good point.
