Plus your typically mall guard is a retired guy who couldn’t stop a marshmallow... True enough. But if I owned a mall I'd actually prefer retired guys. They have seen it all, and so tend to be calmer and more level-headed.
The problem is that they are usually unarmed. I guess insurance premiums otherwise would go through the roof.
