8 tracks... It was well into the 90’s that I stopped flinching waiting for the “click” on some songs.

I was really busy or something in the late 80s/early 90s and missed the transition from vinyl albums to CDs. One day around 1994, I decided I wanted a record, so I went to a music store. I looked around, but there were all these little boxes, so I asked an employee with stupid hair and a ring in his nose, “Where are the record albums?”

He looked blankly at me, and said, “What?” I replied, with gestures, “Those black things, like a dinner plate, that spin round and round.” “Try a used record store,” he replied. “We don’t have any.”

I was only in my mid-20s then, but I felt like Lady Violet Crawley confronted with a gramophone.

I have a box of maybe twenty Quadraphonic 8-track tapes (mostly Moody Blues) AND the Quadraphonic player and four huge box speakers, all from the mid-70’s. I wonder if those tapes would still play, or have they turned brittle...
