Doubt if most people even take these minimal steps when a family member dies.

It appears too many folks want to keep cashing their diseased parent's SS checks; and vote for them too.

I’m sure you are correct. SSA sent the estate the whopping sum of $255.00 toward burial expenses. When you are administrator of an estate, there is just a whole lot of paperwork that needs to be done. My attorney back here in Texas, who is also a personal friend, gave me a wonderful checklist to use though and it helped a lot.

Have tried to incorporate all the things to be done into a list for my son as part of my “If I Should Die Before I Wake” checklist. Many of my older friends don’t leave much in the way of paperwork and just say their kids will “figure it out”. But it’s gotten a whole lot more complicated with passwords and log-on information, etc.
