Mariners' Steve Clevenger is suspended for the rest of the season after controversial tweets
Los Angeles Times ^ | 9/23/2016 | Chuck Schilken

Posted on 09/23/2016 11:17:36 AM PDT by Kazan

attle catcher Steve Clevenger was suspended without pay for the remainder of the season by the Mariners on Friday, a day after he apologized for a pair of controversial tweets he posted on the violent protests in Charlotte, N.C., and the Black Lives Matter movement.

One of those tweets stated that the people protesting a police shooting of a black man “should be locked behind bars like animals.”

His apology came several hours after Mariners General Manager Jerry Dipoto issued a statement of their own, saying he was “very disappointed at the tweets” and the team is “currently examining all internal options that are available to us as we determine appropriate next steps.”

"The Seattle Mariners are very disappointed at the tweets posted on Steve Clevenger’s account,” Dipoto stated. “While he is certainly free to express himself, his tweets do not in any way represent the opinions of the Seattle Mariners. We strongly disagree with the language and tone of his comments.” Friday morning, Dipoto released a statement on Clevenger’s suspension.

After two nights of violent protests that left at least 14 people injured, Clevenger weighed in with two tweets on Thursday. In one, he stated that the situation “cracks me up!”

“Black people beating whites when a thug got shot holding a gun by a black officer haha,” he tweeted.

In the other one, Clevenger called President Obama and the Black Lives Matter movement “pathetic” before adding, “Everyone involved should be locked behind bars like animals!”

Supporting rioters gets one kudos.

Stating a truthful opinion about rioters gets one suspended.

Only in Hussein 0bama’s America.

Exactly. I guess we're now there: "In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." ~ George Orwell.

The charge: Clevenger's tweets are "controversial"?? Too whom? And since when?? This is absolute BULLSHIT! Clevenger's tweets reflect NATIONAL CONSENSUS!!

THIS. IS. SPARTA!!

The charge: Clevenger's tweets are "controversial"?? Too whom?

I watched at little ESPN punditry yesterday. The consensus was that if anything, the punishment to Clevenger was way too light. But they were all satisfied that he'd probably never play another MLB game. Why? Because like Kornheiser said on PTI, there's no way he'd ever be accepted by either African Americans OR Latinos into a clubhouse again.

But hold the presses -- how exactly do LATINOS play into this? Why would THEY be unable to forgive Clenenger, considering they have nothing to do with what's going on in N.C.? Kornheiser didn't say. He simply decided to speak for all Latinos (and all blacks, for that matter), figuring it was obvious that all "people of color" would stick together on this. Noteworthy that he didn't include Japanese ballplayers.

To the SJWs at ESPN (which is just about everyone who works there), Clevenger committed THE unpardonable sin.

What happened to ESPN’s vaunted support for “free speech”?

I don't ever remember ESPN's "vaunted support" for free speech. Fact is ESPN has always been infamous for their feckless cowardice and support of the political Left and PC censorship.

ESPN's ownership, its mouthpieces, its entire agenda has been as a propaganda organ of the Democrat Party while advancing Progressivism, Black Liberation Theology, and their own Sunday Cult that's replaced Church. Many of its black talking head make no bones about their anti-white racism.

As you may recall, ESPN's talking heads overt disrespect and ill-regard for Tim Tebow was despicable, steeped in palpable hate, venom, and disdain. Not so much because they disrespected his skill, but because they despised his overt giving glory to the Lord.

Black Privilege: you get to take a dump on the National Anthem during the game

White dis-Privilege: you get suspended without pay for saying the truth on your own time

SPOT ON! +100

Big Media calls them PROTESTERS, not rioters.

Next meme: "Freedom Fighters".

Love to see what Big Media would call these savages as those same "Protesters" are swarming their gated communitahs?

How empathetic would these hypocrites react as Big Media's cameras tape a live BLM mob of "Protesters" tear their own front door off as Buffy and Skippy are screaming?

Imagine this while those same "Protesters" walk out with Big Media's Big TV and X-Box -- bashing in the windshield of Lovey's Beemer on the way out??

Maybe. MAY BE. Big Media's definitions change to da troof. Still wouldn't count on it. Most of Big Media will be subversive Human Shields of the devil till the end.

Ya gotta be sh**in' me. Recall ESPN's perps?

But they were all satisfied that he'd probably never play another MLB game. Why? Because like Kornheiser said on PTI, there's no way he'd ever be accepted by either African Americans OR Latinos into a clubhouse again.

That's BS. Korneiser. That explains a lot. But Whitey is expected to put up with all the incendiary militancy by big mouth black/Latino revolutionaries?? Kornheiser may be the biggest hypocritical POS ever to pollute ESPN.

But hold the presses -- how exactly do LATINOS play into this? Why would THEY be unable to forgive Clenenger, considering they have nothing to do with what's going on in N.C.? Kornheiser didn't say.

HA! Great points. You wonder why Kornheiser didn't substitute "Muslims" for "Latinos". Aaaah -- but...but...Muzzies down play baseball!

Korn-hole is engaging in the power of suggestion. He's have made a great Nazi.

Here he's *presumed* an expressed alliance between what he *hopes* is an "Us (of color) Vs. Them" meme. We don't see ANY Latinos supporting these riots bases on lies. And certainly no Asians support the anarchy that Kornheiser, militant BLMers, and Muzzies support by word and deed.

And WTH is this "forgiveness" crap? Who made Kornheiser The Pope, Judge, Jury, and Executioner? As usual, his hubris and arrogance is beyond belief. Korn-Hole is a political hack, playing sports pundit. He's reversed and warped the entire narrative and truth of the matter.

To the SJWs at ESPN (which is just about everyone who works there), Clevenger committed THE unpardonable sin.

Yup. ESPN is now just a mob itself and tool of the Left's agenda. Its function: To help advance The Church/Cult of ESPN, advance SJW, advance racial division and animus, and advance a revenge and indictment of America.

They backed Colin Kaepernick’s disrespect of American veterans and our Anthem and Flag and Police as “free speech”, so therefore we must praise his right to free speech.

Yup. And now our political position determines whether our speech is "free" or illegal/illicit. With Lefties at the helm as biased arbiters, we can see in which direction this 1st Amendment subversion and charade are going.

The NFL was exposed as a tool of Progressive/Liberal politics. They sure opened up the can of worms for ALL sports, didn't they?

I’m getting close to the point of saying that all media must be turned off for at least a year to see if they will change their message.

Not a boycott. Just individual Americans reordering their priorities.

It is a wasteland.

When I can’t watch a baseball game without being told Black Lives Matter is as American as applie pie, watch a football game without being told that spitting on the flag is a sign of respect, and watch a basketball game without being told that men molesting girls in girl restroom is true equality, then I’ve got to admit that sports, along with the rest of the culture, has degraded to the lowest level ever in our nation’s history, and probably it vies for the lowest in world history.

A one year “moral moratorium on the media”.

It [Media reporting] is a wasteland.

It truly is. Just last night I could hardly watch Ted Baxter (who straddles the political fence without exception), and fugetabout Megyn Kelly. FNC is doing their best to sabotage Trump.

Hear ya on this force-fed liberal-left politics foisted upon us even during an innocent Football or baseball game. The PTB are using Sports to promote their insane subversions, upside down morals, and seditious rebellion against the USA itself. The BLM-RevCom President is 100% in support of it.

[T]he culture, has degraded to the lowest level ever in our nation’s history, and probably it vies for the lowest in world history.

I share your same disappointment and heartbreak, my friend. The good news? I am seeing and hearing very impassioned blow-back to what's going on -- as well as to the possibility of The Hag becoming President.

"It is a wasteland....A one year “moral moratorium on the media”.

And THAT will all change should Trump win the Presidency.

Imagine a MSM that no longer is commanded by the RevCom Comminitah Organizer to report nothing but divide & conquer propaganda and lies 24/7?

I sincerely hope for Trump to win. I prayed for that this morning as well as praying for God’s opposition to those who have brought this corruption on our nation. I hope that prayer is heard, because the only interpretation for a different result is that God is in the middle of judging this nation harshly. I hope it’s like Abraham’s plea with God....”if there are only 10, Lord...You wouldn’t destroy it if there are 10...”

I do expect that if he does win that the establishment will hit him immediately with extreme antagonism 24/7 without even the semblance of a ‘honeymoon’. And there are so many turncoats in the republican establishment that they will vote with the democrats.

I also expect TPP to be forced by Ryan, McConnel, and Obama in the lame duck session. That will be a royal battle.

IF

she manages to pull off a win, I will disconnect my AT&T U-Verse connected TV.

I'll find an Internet connection and that will be it.

This athlete needs to immediately find the best lawyer.

Screw these blatant double standards.

Yes, I think so as well.

When they do this, I expect President Trump to do what Reagan did...take it directly to the people. I hope he names names of those pols obstructing America’s restoration! The it’s up to We the People to let our Reps know what we want.

I like your "Take-No-Prisoner" tude. Already in the process of deep-sixing my cable TV. It's 98% junk (except for older TV shows on certain channels, but we can catch them on the net, right?)

Clevenger should be well represented by the MLB Union. We should follow closely to see how this pans out. Regardless, he'll probably now get blackballed as a cautionary tale for other athletes who consider giving a pro-USA, po-conservative viewpoint on Twitter/FB.

The moral/legal double-standard is in full bloom under this Regime. We should have expected a degree of it, right? But NOT a full-blown Banana Republic justice.

Good prayer, brother.

Some days it's hard not to say, "Have at it, Lord. Lay down the Hammer of Justice...NOW!

Then other times we're encouraged by those who keep on holding up their end of the "bargain" and opposing the rife evil.

No doubt that the evil and sabotage beset by Bammy and his demonic minions will fall upon Trump -- as though *any* of this mess were his fault. Yes, the MSM will be relentless. But again, Reagan faced the same thing after Carter.

Clinton, both Bushes, and especially ZERO utterly demolished this Republic. It will take Trump a good three years just to find all the bureaucratic booby-traps and mines -- never mind solve many problems (other than sweeping out as many subversive 0bama Appointees and laws -- big and little -- from the books.)

People would find the degree to which Ryan and McConnell are collusive, bought-off, FOR SALE and corrupt...unimaginable. Any perception that they are fighting for this Republic is a mirage.

Recall ESPN's perps?

First Take, Around the Horn, and PTI. The usual SJW virtue signaling crowd.

Kornheiser is at his most insufferably progressive when teamed up with the obnoxious young hot shot Pablo Torre ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pablo_S._Torre ), who subs occasionally on that show. Sociology major at Hahvahd. Figures. Kornhole probably respects that lame-azz degree more than any other.

And that was the pairing yesterday. They hammered away at Clevenger, stopping just short of calling what he wrote a "hate crime." Kornhole calls Torre a "genius" every other minute. And Torre laps it up.

Yep, almost everyone employed by ESPN is completely invested in their "us vs. them" narrative, with "them" of course being white conservative males. Looking forward to seeing them all on Nov. 9.

I heard that a site like Hulu permits you to pay only for programs you select. Is that true...does anyone know if there is anything like that out there?
