"The government is not providing people the very basic needs that you have in a free society," former Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said.

How do they square a free society with the expectation of the government providing things?

It is NOT the job of the damn government to “Provide the basic needs in a free society.”
The job of any government is to enable the individual citizen to be the best that he/she can possible be. Some rise to the very top and others just go along, giving to society that which they can. PERIOD.
Of course, there are those who through infirmity, ill health or other difficulties cannot provide for their own needs. Few can rightfully object to assisting the TRULY unfortunate, but not the able bodied.
We’ve had enough of those demanding to get back onto the plantation....gimme dat, please, please. That doesn’t work.
