How does a tech guy not know about scrubbing data? There have been free utilities to do 7X rewrites for decades. Do that twice and be done. Replace the drives and you don’t have to scrub.
What’s so hard?
That wasn’t the question he asked. He asked how to remove the mailbox recipient/sender information from message files in an Exchange system. That’s a bit more complicated, esp. if you don’t want to leave a forensic trace.
Based on this email, it seems they were trying to obfuscate Hillary’s address to make it impossible to determine if Hillary herself sent/received the emails. Instead, they chose to wipe the server to make it impossible to recover the data.
Problem with all of this is that the Russians and Chinese had the data long before any scrubbing was done.
It sounds like the guy was only interested in masking HRC's email address in the email sender and/or recipient fields in the MIME headers.
I was just thinking that—if my 14 year old nephew was here, I’d just ask him.
But I think that Hillbilly’s IT temp better plead the 5th on his resume in the future because he’s going to be known as ‘oh- you’re that guy!’
My nephew and I were just talking a few days ago, about doing this sort of thing- more accurately, he was explaining it to me because he had just done something similar, ran a test and was very happy it worked.
And while I’m not the computer genius he is (seriously-he’s been studying coding etc online, teaching himself for FUN- since June-he’s very smart), I’m the only one here that knows enough about computer stuff to understand what he’s talking about....and when something isn’t working, I have him explain it to me and I ask a few stupid questions and sooner or later, he stops and says:”ooohhhhh! I know why it bombed!”—
So, I’m kind of like his ‘guru’, he said, because I always help him ‘figure it out by talking it out’.
(Yes-I’m the ‘cool’ auntie....) ;-)

Ever notice how the being able to regurgitate the latest buzzwords and bullshyte != the ability to produce functional solutions?
Observe the “cultural” fiasco when Obumblecare failed to launch.
Same ol’
They’re incompetent and unable to compete - that’s why they need to protect each other ala the “cultural” herd.
