Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Sunday that its high time for Donald Trumps former primary challengers to come on board and support his campaignand suggested there could be trouble for them in 2020 or 2024 if they dont.
Those people need to get on board, he told CBS Face the Nation. And if theyre thinking theyre going to run again someday, I think that were going to evaluate the process of the nomination process and I dont think its going to be that easy for them.
Several of Trumps former Republican primary opponents, including Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush have not endorsed Trump in the months since the GOP businessman secured the nomination. Asked explicitly whether that meant there would be penalties for the handful of 2016 Republican hopefuls who have not endorsed Trump if they opted to run again in 2020 or 2024, Priebus said nothing has been decided but that its something the party will look at.
All of the major Republican candidates, including Trump, signed a so-called loyalty pledge last summer stating that they would support the eventual Republican nominee regardless of who it is. The document wasnt legally binding, but candidates were asked to sign it last summer after Trump at the time wouldnt rule out a third-party bid if he lost the nomination.

“We could literally be annexed by Mexico, and these fools would still be bleating about the Constitution and our values.”
That’s already happened to us in California. Trump is the first candidate that even sounds like he will deport the illegal alien invaders.
I had been considering writing Prebus and demanding this - even for this election [although admittantly it could cost them the Senate.] He had written me a letter and sent a dollar bill to encourage donation to the RNC. I was going to send the dollar back and suggest it is time for party discipline. Traditionally the prez candidate becomes the party leader... it is obvious that Trump - if he assumes leadership of the GOP - is going to have to redesign the party and return it to the voter base, not the large $$$ donors.
