RNC Chairman: Party could penalize former GOP candidates who don’t endorse Donald Trump
CBS News ^ | September 18, 2016, 12:05 PM | EMILY SCHULTHEIS

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Sunday that it’s high time for Donald Trump’s former primary challengers to come on board and support his campaign—and suggested there could be trouble for them in 2020 or 2024 if they don’t.

“Those people need to get on board,” he told CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “And if they’re thinking they’re going to run again someday, I think that we’re going to evaluate the process – of the nomination process and I don’t think it’s going to be that easy for them.”

Several of Trump’s former Republican primary opponents, including Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush have not endorsed Trump in the months since the GOP businessman secured the nomination. Asked explicitly whether that meant there would be penalties for the handful of 2016 Republican hopefuls who have not endorsed Trump if they opted to run again in 2020 or 2024, Priebus said nothing has been decided but that it’s something the party will “look at.”

All of the major Republican candidates, including Trump, signed a so-called “loyalty pledge” last summer stating that they would support the eventual Republican nominee “regardless of who it is.” The document wasn’t legally binding, but candidates were asked to sign it last summer after Trump at the time wouldn’t rule out a third-party bid if he lost the nomination.

“Am I actually starting to not hate this guy?”

He’s a better “tea leaf reader” than those worthless turds that will not support the people’s nominee, Donald J. Trump.

The DNC would have more reason to get these guys to cooperate. They certainly don't want these RINOs (their trusted moles) to get kicked out of the party.

Reince Priebus says that Republicans who did not honor their Pledge to support the Nominee or get on board to promote a Republican win in November would face some form of disciplinary action. It’s time to do that NOW!!!

I saw a Hillary Clinton ad where ‘Republican’ after ‘Republican’ said horrible things about OUR Nominee. The ad finished with something like ‘Too dangerous even for Republicans’.

We who ARE supporting the Republican candidate sincerely want to say that those people on the ad are NOT Republicans -— and losing their Party credentials will make that true.

I ask that we immediately strip these people of their party affiliation, and let them spend the rest of what remains of their political lives as ‘Independents’.

The RNC must treat these traitors to our brand as total outsiders, including 100% Party support of any Republican challengers to the incumbent in the next Primary season. Replacement is a most appropriate disciplinary action!!!

DO IT -— do it NOW!!!

Not to worry. As soon as Priebus’ current gig is over, he will be all over the media slandering Trump and everyone connected with Trump. He just likes the gravy train.

Let them not endorse Trump AND face a primary challenge. This isn’t going to be decided based on whom in the establishment endorses Trump.

As I heard Preibus say in a radio show recently, the party can prevent their name from even appearing on a Republican primary ballot, because they broke the CONTRACT.

This wasn't some one-off contract. This is something they do every election cycle. In return for receiving resources from the party (such as mailing list data) they must sign a contract saying they will support the nominee. It's not a new thing, it's been going on for years.

The party, with Trump at its head, could enforce the penalties contained in the contract next election cycle.

What chance will LIndsey Graham have getting reelected if his name isn't on the GOP primary ballot in SC? How many people will write in Lindsey Graham?

“Boy is he slow on this.”

He intentionally timed it. He hates Trump. But he saw his position diminish once Trump outwitted this clown.

Actually, it was a legally binding CONTRACT.

The GOP does this every cycle. To receive support from the party (such as mailing lists) they must sign a statement they will support the candidate.

Prebius kept referring to it as a “data contact” in the radio interview I heard him give. It is legally binding, and the GOP does have legal recourse against those candidates that don’t keep their end of the contract.

Well of course Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, John Kasich, and the rest are going to endorse Donald Trump without hesitation because they made the pledge.

I’m being sarcastic. I’m frankly disgusted with all of them, Trump too, as I now think that maybe he would’ve not kept his pledge had he lost the GOP nomination. None of them had to make the pledge. They all should’ve had the courage to “just say no” regarding the pledge.

Well moving forward I recognize that there is no way I can vote for Hillary Clinton. She has had her fair chance to prove that she will have integrity, support the Constitution, and be a leader for the people and the rule of law. How did she do? Ughhhhhhhhhhhh!!

There’s a much better chance of Yeb! endorsing illary than there is of him endorsing Trump.

As a Westerville, Ohio resident and a once long time constituent and supporter of Kasich both as a congressman and governor. I will say this.

Unequivocally, I will NEVER, EVER, vote for him for any office after what he did and refused to do this campaign season.

A man’s true character often shows itself in defeat, and Kasich showed himself to be selfish, arrogant, and a man not of his word.

We won’t forget, John....I promise you that.

Kasich, L. Graham, Teddy Cruz, Jebbie Bush all gave and oath to support the GOP nominee. All four broke their oath. None of them can be trusted.

Kasich apparently received money from Soros. Graham is a Dem infiltrator. Cruz is weird and out only for himself. Jebbie is more Mexican than American and wants to establish a Bush dynasty.

There is only hope for Ted Cruz & maybe Mike Lee.....although he is not-too-bright, when it come to reality. Without endorsing Trump, Cruz goes nowhere politcally in the Texa Republican Party. As for Jeb Bush, Lindsey Graham & John Kasich, all three are insane, nutcases in unison with weak sister, Mitt Romney. I think the RNC should throw them out of the Republican Party immediately, with no path of return, ever!!!

DICKERSON: Is he capturing reluctant Republicans, some of which are -- some of whom are public officials in the Republican Party who are either in the never Trump or who are in the barely Trump category, which --

PRIEBUS: Well, I mean, some of the people who ran for president, I mean -- but what you have to look at is, where are we at with the voters? And where we're at with the voters is, in one of the last polls that I just saw, nearly 90 percent of the Republicans. I think Mitt was about 91, 92. We need to do a couple more percentage points better. And we're doing that as we move forward.

But, look, people who agreed to support the nominee, that took part in our process, they used tools from the RNC. They agreed to support the nominee. They took part in our process. We're a private party. We're not a public entity.

DICKERSON: Uh-huh.

PRIEBUS: Those people need to get on board. And if they're thinking they're going to run again someday, you know, I think that we're going to evaluate the process of the nomination process, and I don't think it's going to be that easy for them.

Mr. Priebus has yet to say what he would do with GHWB, GWB, and Jebbie? George P. is home free, for he endorsed Trump.
