I have a favorite quote from Patrick Henry on this topic. It should be as well known as his more famous words, unfortunately it is not.

You are not to inquire how your trade may be increased, nor how you are to become a great and powerful people, but how your liberties can be secured; for liberty ought to be the direct end of your Government.

Is there a conflict between liberty and someone's job, or someone's business model? Liberty should prevail.

Is there a conflict between liberty and the nation's world prestige or power? Liberty should prevail.

Liberty, liberty, liberty above all.

There is much work to be done. Too many conservatives here are just as willing to make more laws as the liberals.

But when challenged, they will say, “But our laws are better.”
