A female Philadelphia Police Sergeant and a male University of Pennsylvania Officer were shot in West Philadelphia Friday night, according to police.
One suspect was also shot and killed.
Shots rang out after 11 p.m. near 51st and Sansom streets in West Philadelphia.
Police said one suspect was dead. The search continued for possible other suspects.
Officers could be seen searching homes in the area.
A civilian was also shot.
Both officers were taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, listed in stable condition.
There was no word on the condition of the civilian.
Commissioner Ross was expected to provide an update overnight.
Check back with NBC10 as more information becomes available.
Crimes ... I guess the word is out that Obama declared open season on LEOs.
51st and Sansom is a bad neighborhood.
It’s also quite a ways from the westernmost edge of the Penn campus. I wonder what the Penn campus cop was doing there.
Bad night for the police. First Ft. Worth, now Philly. Prayers up.

It’s pretty common for campus police to also be sworn by the jurisdiction in which their college resides. For example. The University of Michigan police also has police powers in the city of Ann Arbor. The campus cop could’ve been called for back-up.

All those shot are civilians. No military members were involved.
I will not be the first to ask the question.
Me too. UPenn is two miles east. Also it’s not too far from where my mother grew up before/during WWII. The neighborhood has changed since then.
West Philly is a no-go zone from 38th St to the other side of Upper Darby.
You aren't allowed to say that. Oh, you mean the climate. Yeah, a lot warmer, for sure.
Yeah, kind of a random statement. Like saying “A biped was also shot.” Wait, what?
I’ll wait for BLM to claim that the suspect had his hands up and the officers shot each other in the crossfire.
There is a story about another shooting of police some place else .. 3 or 4 of them. Don’t have other stats .. looking for the other article.
Somewhere Colin ‘steaming pile of crap’ Kaepernik is smiling.
Boston style? They should be careful, massive unconstitutional searches can have unexpected consequences.
Info on the shooter.
16 prior arrests !!!
I would really like to understand how this crap happens.
I mean, even with my “White Privilege”, I know that after one arrest, I would be in jail.
16?
WTF?
And we hear about this all the time.
"Penn Police officer Ed Miller and Philadelphia Police Sergeant Sylvia Young were among those shot, Rush said. Miller, who has been with the Penn Police department for two years, previously served as a Philadelphia Police officer for 33 years, including time spent as a sergeant."
He went to the "Assist Officer" call.
It was 5 blocks west of the Penn Patrol area.
