Washington (CNN) With virtually unmatched popularity at her back, First Lady Michelle Obama debuts on the stump for Hillary Clinton Friday, hoping to galvanize suburban voters behind a candidate she once fiercely opposed.
At a campaign rally in northern Virginia, Obama will work to convince her and her husband's supporters that Clinton is also worthy of their votes. The rally on the campus of George Mason University is timed ahead of the commonwealth's October 17 voter registration deadline.
Once designated "The Closer" on President Barack Obama's campaigns for the White House, Obama is entering a race more bitterly fought than either of her husband's own election battles. Largely averse to partisan bickering, the first lady hopes to avoid being dragged into this year's fracas, instead making the case for Clinton as a uniquely qualified candidate. (snip)
The first lady is Clinton's most popular campaign surrogate, with polls pegging her favorable rating near 60%. She's largely avoided the type of policy role that Clinton sought as a presidential spouse, choosing to focus on more broadly accepted topics like supporting military families and combating obesity in children.
She's carefully positioned herself as a cultural icon, appearing on popular television programs as a vehicle to advance her agenda. This week she co-hosted Ellen DeGeneres' talk show, partaking in a stunt that saw the host teach the first lady how to shop in a CVS.

For the first time in my adult life I'm impressed with Moochelle's acting ability.
for ignorant, racist, and low-info voters.
Really.
‘Largely averse to partisan bickering’
Oh yeah, that describes Moochelle to a T. /s
Clinton and Obama = Politics of the past.
Other than ride their husbands coattails, what did either actually accomplish?
The Special Prosecutor Full Employment Act.
Well she has an unmatched backside. I'll give her that.
"She's carefully positioned herself as a cultural icon..."
She’s just a BIG NOTHING!!!!
Now the Dims want to have her, Elizabeth Warren (another BIG NOTHING), and poor, betrayed Bernie Sanders campaign for Millennials to come back into the Crooked Hillary fold. PHOOEY! Don’t listen to them, or even attend their events!!!!
Unable to read. Text covered by too much slobber.
Northern Virginia (GMU is in Fairfax) should be a lock for Hillary so why is this “rally” necessary? Also interesting would be the number of how many attend. There’s a reported gas main break at Braddock and 123 (GMU) so that might have some effect, too.
No one cares about Hillary.
Democratic surrogates can’t sell someone who is unelectable, period.
People are turning their backs on the Hildabeast.
Moochelle might as well roll the boulder up the hill for all the difference it would make.
Its over.
Trump is going to win VA.
Moochelle’s foray there will make no difference.
If VA was a lock, she wouldn’t be spending time there on Hillary’s behalf.
Hillary who couldn’t find her way out of a paper bag.
That’s a Democratic front-runner, or so we’re told.
Doesn’t look like it.
I assumed they might try for the arena (Eagle Bank, I think it’s called) at GMU but it’s just at the Johnson Center at 1300. That can only hold maybe a hundred or two at most. Waste of time and effort.
Absolutely.
No one cares about you Moochella, you hanger-on racist affirmative action BAP. To not suffer her as first lady come January is reason for extra celebration of inauguration of Trump. I really despise her, the 21st century black Marie Antoinette.
I don’t understand how they are trying to sell MO as popular. Everytime they have trotted her out they quickly pull her back in and put her under wraps because she bombs.
I keep hearing she’s so popular...school lunch programs..school districts losing millions in sales and opting out...let’s move and the childhood obesity rate goes up..for the first time in my life I am proud of my country(after the affirmative action ride to Princeton)...all this for a flag....?????
What am I missing?
