Also lived in Yokohama (Negishi Heights) and later Sagamihara (Camp Zama). I believe we talked before; I watched the MSTS ship Gen. E.D. Patrick cast off in 1958.

How was it decided who traveled either by ship or by air? We went Northwest Orient/World Airways.

Just googled E.D. Patrick. She was towed to the scrapyard in 2010 after years out of service. Many posted comments about traveling on her as dependents, or military bound for Korea or Vietnam.

Yes; old Brat memories.
Suggest a visit to Japan Guide sometime. You might find some chums from that era. Click on forum, then type in “PX.”
There was a ship named General M.M. Patrick, nicknamed the Mickey Mouse. I believe this ship somehow split in half at anchor in California or Washington State but was raised, welded back together and continued in service.
I went to 1st or 2nd grade in Sagami, then 3rd and 4th at Nasugbu (in the Yo-Hi building.) Then two years at YIS, then back to 6th at Nile C. Kinnick (Yo-Hi renamed by the Navy.)
