The MSTS ships were actually part of the Navy but were piloted by American civilian skippers. They were named for long dead American Army generals.
Our last trip back was on the the USS General W. A. Mann. Instead of Seattle, we disembarked at Oakland.

The MSTS ships were actually part of the Navy but were piloted by American civilian skippers. I left the Navy in 65, they flew me fro Clark Field in the Philippines. I guess that was the new version of MSTS. Got back to Treasure Island before I left.
