“indigenous people who are the descendants of the Aztec, Olmec and Mayan people who are not even fluent in Spanish.”
.
.
.
That’s an interesting tidbit I did not know.

What language do they speak out of curiosity? A hodgepodge of various languages?

Mostly the modern equivalent of the Aztec, Olmec and Mayan languages. Even if you're fluent in Spanish, they may not understand you. It'll be like me being fluent in Mandarin-dialect Chinese going to Japan and trying to communicate with the people who speak in a local Japanese dialect that is not "standard" Japanese--good luck!
