Those, in both the North and South, who cheered when the state of South Carolina lowered the Confederate battle flag and when the Southern Baptist Convention asked their members not to display the same, are reaping what they have sown, as the symbols of the War for independence are now under attack. Colin Kapernick and others refuse to salute the current national flag, and suffer no real repercussions. Somewhere, the spirits of the Confederate dead and departed, loyal Southerners must be enjoying the irony. The neo-cons and moderate Republicans in particular were vocal in their support of Nikki Haley and the SBC. Now they are seeing their beloved symbols attacked by the 21st Century American Red Guards.
