Texas Archbishop Slaps Down “Catholics” for Choice!
The Christian Review ^ | Sep 13, 2016 | Deal Hudson

Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, M.Sp.S. of San Antonio has shown the kind of leadership so badly needed in this election season. When the oxymoronic Catholics of Choice published a advertisement in the San Antonio newspaper (September 12), Archbishop Garcia-Siller answered with the following broadside. This statement has the ring of a bishop who has had enough of the nonsense and wants to set the record straight. Thank you Archbishop Garcia-Siller! (Italics are added for emphasis.)

ARCHDIOCESE RESPONDS TO CATHOLICS FOR CHOICE ADVERTISEMENT IN SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS

An organization called Catholics for Choice placed a full-page advertisement in the Sept. 12 edition of the San Antonio Express-News with inaccurate information which must be corrected, since it misrepresents the truth and what the Catholic Church believes and teaches.

This misrepresentation is demonstrated by their statement that “Public funding for abortion is a Catholic social justice value.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

Before responding to claims made by Catholics for Choice in “Abortion in Good Faith,” it should be noted that this group does not speak for the Catholic Church. The group undertook a similar media campaign in the state of Colorado just two years ago, and the bishops there also responded in reiterating authentic Catholic social teaching and the consistent ethic of life.

For more than 2,000 years, the Church has steadfastly proclaimed that respect for all human life at every stage is foundational to the Catholic faith. Abortion from the earliest tradition of the Church has been considered immoral.

The Catholic Church’s position on abortion is clear. In the magisterial document “Donum Vitae” (The Gift of Life), the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith affirmed that, “The human being is to be respected and treated as a person from the moment of conception; and therefore from that same moment his rights as a person must be recognized, among which in the first place is the inviolable right of every innocent human being to life,” (Sec I.1) Direct abortion, or the intentional killing of a human being living in the womb, is always seriously immoral because as persons the right-to-life is the most basic and fundamental right we possess.

It is our hope that one day Catholics for Choice will take the time to acquaint themselves with basic Catholic teachings, and acknowledge the truth of the Catholic faith, and not choose to misrepresent her teachings with false and inaccurate information and ads that only work to confuse and mislead the public. Upholding the sacred dignity of all human life is the duty of every member of society and this duty must be taken seriously in order to ensure that we are a part of a culture that affirms the right to life for all, especially the most vulnerable among us.

Young one, too.

Hopefully he'll continue to slap down pro-abortion CUACs (pronounced "quacks") with sufficient regularity and vigor that they either promptly repent or promptly go to hell.

The former is that for which I devoutly hope.

It is a sad day when such a high-ranking priest has to publicly state the obvious to those who are supposed to be devout.

Last time I saw home he was screaming to 3000 willing listeners at a Catholic womens forum ‘VivaCristo Rey!!!!!!!!’

As if Jesus hates America and Latinos deserve to take over. He oversees the many churches in San Antonio where the Mexican flag is displayed on the same level as the American flag

Bishop Steve Lopes of the Personal Ordinariate of the chair if St. Peter, also a young bishop, has also condemned the ads in no uncertain terms.

See http://ordinariate.net/news/bishop-lopes-reacts-to-recent-ads-by-catholics-for-choice

The money quote:

“The insinuation that Catholic faith can lead a person to sanction something which is always and everywhere a moral evil is fraudulent, deceitful, and simply wrong.”

Don’t go all lib on us and start confusing political and Church. He wasn’t elected. He was appointed and anointed and his chief job is teaching his flock. Which he did in this instance. It is remarkable only because it is remarkable. And that is a tragedy.

"¡Viva Cristo Rey!" doesn't mean "God hates Americans and love Latinos" It means "Long live Christ the King."

You know this very well, of course, but I'm mentioning it for the sake of of other readers.

As for the Mexican flag: some interpret it as a symbol of a Hispanic Reonquista. Similarly, some also interpret the CSA (Confederate) "Southern Cross" or "rebel" flag as a symbol of White Supremacy. Some interpret the Gadsden flag as a symbol of anti-U.S. government insurrection. But it is not a just judgment. People who display such flags should not be judged by the most extreme possible interpretation.

When Pope John Paul II visited the USA in 1979, my hometown was practically bedecked with Vatican flags and colors (yellow and white) and Polish flags and colors (red and white) by proud Polish American Catholics. No subversive motive was intended or imputed.

National flags are always flown at the same level. This is basic international flag etiquette.

Bottom line, Bishop Garcia-Siller did not act improperly with regard to the Catholic slogan or the Mexican flag.

Yeah. When you have 3000 women screaming in Spanish language led by a guy who is screaming that America needs to allow this invasion during a religious convention, the religion has taken a lower priority.

And that is frightening

Can you give me a link where the bishop is screaming to allow border invasions?

I realize the USCCB and many of its members have been abysmally, shockingly bad about the border security/illegal invasion issue --- partly because of millions of federal dollars to CRS and related agencies --- but I jut want to see some evidence of your specific charge against Bishop Garcia-Siller.

Flag Code

"If the flags of other nations are displayed with the American Flag, they should be of equal size and at equal heights on separate staffs at a time of peace."

Flag Protocol

"Any other flag may be flown at an equal height to the US flag provided the US flag is at the leftmost staff from the perspective of the viewer."

My husband and I have displayed both the USA and the Gadsden flags.

Also I would put symbols of Christ above (not equal to) the flag. I believe in God and Country, but God is above Country. "One nation, Under God."

Viva Cristo Rey! simply means: Long live Christ the King!

Please explain in detail how that simple expression suggests that "Jesus hates America" or that "Latinos deserve to take over."

As to the flags, the papal flag is the flag of the nation known as Vatican City and it is displayed in most Catholic churches as an identification with the papacy and not as a suggestion that the pope (and given the nature of Frankie, God forbid!) does or would or should somehow rule the USA.

A link?

Try google

Here’s the first sentence of the first article in a long succession

METRO: Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller reads a letter to immigrants during a press conference on Monday Dec. 12, 2011, on behalf of the of the 33 Hispanic Catholic bishops in the United States, expressing their solidarity and concern for undocumented immigrants. You got the first sentence, but perhaps missed the second paragraph:

"The letter is not intended to be political, García-Siller said, but is meant to remind immigrants, including those here illegally, that the church is available to them. The church continues to offer them services such as counseling and providing food to the needy, he said, adding that it has nothing to do with offering sanctuary.'"

Via my work with RCIA, I had the opportunity to help a non-Latino American woman, who was entering the church, get help for her El Salvadorean husband who opposed the gangs and was being threatened by death from narcotraficantes (in El Salvador.)

They're both now safely Catholic and AMerican, and have a small farm and are making a living selling goat's milk products in Tennessee.

The goats are eating kudzu.

It's a win-win.

My first thought was “Bishop Obvious to the Rescue!” ... but you’re right. Sometimes the culture is so corrupt that someone has to pick up a clue-bat and start swinging.

Good on him for doing so.

Through my work I have helped many people legal illegal criminal and more

If you’re near San Antonio you go to the Catholic women’s conference coming up and you will find frightening anger, defiance, disrespect for the law and the catechism which separates church and state matters and absolutely teaches against promoting illegal immigration

Additionally, Garcia sillier is an immigrant. As such he is not allowed to advise in an official state on governmental matters in this country.

He is defiant and disrespectful

He does not have command of tge English language and does not allow hiring in the diocese of anyone who is not Spanish Romany language speaking
