I lost him when he got hysterical becauase Trump said he wanted to renegotiate the trade deals. Mark went right to worst case scenario. Mark is a lawyer and remember lawyers are experts on everything /sarc. I heard his treatise on the Depression and tariffs and he spouted his limited knowledge and 11th grade history book details on what caused and exacerbated it and he lost me. I have a BS in Economics and an MBA from Cal and I can say without a doubt he sounded ignorant on the subject, confusing the Laffer curve, tariffs, individual income taxes and trade policy. It was a confused mess he tried to wrap with a Conservsative philsophical bow.
Somebody on this board had a saying: “A free trade deal takes one paragraph. These deals aren’t free trade.”
Very succinct.
What I have actually heard Trump say is we are going to re-evaluate our trade deals, and re-negotiate deals with nations on an individual basis - no more making deals with the entire Pacific rim, etc.
This actually sounds similar to what a company in bankruptcy would do...and it makes sense, as we cannot continue forever with our current deals. It seems logical, and measured...but Levin won’t even have a discussion about it, just a tantrum.
