The DNC can nominate someone else in case of an emergency. That said, I think it is legally too late. Ballots are determined and some states have very early voting.

The DNC will, not can, nominate somebody else.

And it's not "too late". At the general election, we don't vote for candidates, we vote for electors. Thus, no change is necessary in the ballot.
